Hi, My LE26R41BD TV, purchased Oct 2005, went crack/bang and burst into flames with smoke pooring out. Fortunately, I was able to unplug and move into the garden to let it burn itself out, thus avoid a fire in my house. Very very worrying. .
.
My concern is that this appears to be a known problem with a batch. My immediate family (mother and brother) also bought the same model at about the same time - i.e. three in all. I'm desperate to find out whether or not their sets are part of the same batch. I am providing the serial nos to Samsung via e-mails marked urgent (using their web form under FAQ) but they are NOT responding.
Does anyone know of a reliable way to contact Samsung?
Does anyone have any up-to-date info on the problem? What few posts I've found on this forum all seem very old and have broken links (e.g. http://www.ilovesamsung.co.uk/r51-safety-recall page no longer exists).
But the problems still exists; and there must still be dangerous sets still in use?
TIA ------------ Does anyone know of a reliable way to contact Samsung?
Have you tried phoning them?
Have you still got the set? Can you post pictures of it? ------------ Thanks Aaz; my apologies for not getting back sooner, but site was unavailable every time I tried (have you been doing some maintenance?!).
Samsung did eventually reply; I then asked why, given the fire risk, they did not issue a full recall; an extract from their reply follows:
"In regards to your e-mail query, please note that there were no recall
ads for this issue as Samsung did not deem it to be a Health &
Safety issue, after consultation with relevant parties, ie. engineers,
health and safety experts, etc. We know that Dixons, Curry's - ie.
members of the DSG group voluntarily changed the power component on
these models as a precaution, however no other retailer decided that
this issue merited a recall or an adjustment, after being appraised of
the issue.
As mentioned in the previous e-mail, we have had not one case of a fire
being started due to the component blowing, or any other similar
scenario. Of course it is possible that as the component blows, it may
melt some plastic but this is the only issue that has ever occured."
I saw flames inside the TV as I was rushing it into the garden where it burnt itself out. Samsung still do not consider this fire risk to have been a health and safety issue, then what is!
Sorry, but I don't have any photos. And the set is back with my supplier, so too late.
Regards ------------ I guess it kindof makes sense what they say, that a componant blowing would show smoke.
Did yours actually burn itself out and 'melt' ? or did you just see lots of smoke?
Shame you dont have any pics I'd liked to have seen it. ------------ It burned itself out; in the process, some of the plastic at the top/back melted.
Yes, it would have been nice to have had some pictures of it burning. Especially since Samsung still don't seem to believe me when I say there were flames. But my overriding priority was to remove the set out of harms way, into the garden. And besides, it was night and dark; not best for photography.
